What are important characteristics of good gel nails?

Your hands are a part of your body that everyone sees. Therefore, take good care of it. A choice that stands out for many women is putting on gel nails. Ideal if you don’t want to spend a lot of time and energy on your nails. Therefore, visit a real nail stylist and you will notice that you enjoy it for at least a month. Here are several things you should pay attention to.

The construction of gel nails

Determine the length

When you visit a nail stylist for the first time, the lengths of your own nails are filed evenly so that your gel nails later form a beautiful whole on your hand. If you are a nail biter, you can of course also choose to extend it. Tips or templates will then be used. Preference is personal, although for some the use of a template is less obvious than tips.

Tips are plastic pre-formed nails that you cut to size and then stick to the original nail with nail glue to obtain an extension. Stencils, on the other hand, are sticker-shaped molds that you place around the finger and under the original nail (this is not always possible with nail biters). You then manually apply the gel to create the extension and shape.

Different layers

  1. The adhesion layer
When making gel nails, many different gel products are used. After your own nails have been filed on top, an adhesive layer will be applied to prevent air under the gel or the nail from eventually loosening. This layer should be applied for 120 sec. to dry under a UV lamp.

    2. The building gel
When the adhesion layer has been applied, we can start making the gel nails effective. A building gel will be applied that should sit on the nail with a slight bulge. This way, the natural pressure point of your nails is maintained and the chance of breakage is greatly reduced. After the building gel has been applied for 120 sec. has hardened under the UV lamp, you must remove the adhesive layer after which you can file the gel into the desired shape.

    3. Determine the border and/or color
This step depends on the type of nails you ultimately want. Are you going for a French manicure (white border) or would you prefer a full color? Everything is possible. Once you have made this choice, the gel will again run for 120 seconds. must be placed under a UV lamp to ensure proper curing.

    4. The decoration
Could it be a little more for you? Then glitter and rhinestones are the ideal finishing touch! The chosen decoration is applied last but not least in the desired location. These will then also be placed under the UV lamp again for strengthening.

    5. The final layer
This layer finally ensures that everything forms a beautiful whole. Make sure that the gel never comes into contact with the cuticle. Guaranteed that air will form afterwards.

The choice is also unlimited in the type of final layer. Would you like a wet look? Prefer a matte touch? Or just a little shine? Everything is possible, but of course it depends on who you have your gel nails done by and what that person has to offer. The final layer must then be briefly placed under the UV lamp, after which the adhesive layer will be removed. Afterwards it requires a bit of filing to ensure that no annoying piece of gel has stuck anywhere or that the nails do not feel naturally smooth.

The check up

Are your nails completely finished? Be sure to check the following points thoroughly to ensure that you can enjoy this investment for at least four weeks:

  • Are your cuticles pushed back?
  • Is there a slight U-shape visible in the nails?
  • Are there any overhanging gel residues on the sides?
  • Do you have nice, even shapes on all fingers?
  • Are all nails shiny?
  • Are there any discolourations anywhere?

Does this all seem to be okay? Then you can show your new nails to everyone with confidence. However, it is a first impression that you leave on people.
