Solutions for frizzy hair

We want to be able to control our hair easily, but with frizzy hair this is virtually impossible. This hair problem can have several causes. Your hair care may not provide your hair with enough hydration or the hair may be damaged because you are not careful enough with it. The weather that doesn’t cooperate can also be the cause of your bad hair day. Do you dream of smooth hair, but do you still walk out the door every morning with a fluffy head? Fortunately, the following tips can provide a solution.

Moisturize your hair well

An important cause of frizz is dry hair. Because this is partly genetically determined, it is difficult to find a permanent solution. You can take various measures to protect your hair from further dehydration and to give it sufficient hydration.

Use the appropriate styling products

To prevent frizzy hair, it is important to use sufficient nourishing products. Therefore, use shampoo and conditioner that is aimed at deeply nourishing the hair. Search the shelves for products for dry and frizzy hair. Use a nourishing shampoo and don’t wash your hair too often. Always apply a conditioner or leave-in conditioner after washing. To give your hair extra nourishment, it is advisable to use a hair mask regularly. Because frizzy hair can never have enough nourishment, you can apply a moisturizing cream or spray to wet, freshly washed hair. This nourishes your hair and can tame unruly hairs. It is important to make sure that you do not use styling products that contain alcohol, as this will dry out your hair. It is therefore better to avoid products such as hair spray and hair mousse.

Protect your hair

In addition to overly dry hair, hair damage can also make your hair look frizzy. The hair is then less smooth and less manageable. Damaged hair is porous, making it easy to break. Hair breakage causes shorter hairs to stick out, preventing the hair from being smooth. To prevent frizzy hair, it is important to give your hair sufficient protection. There are several tricks for this.

Let your hair air dry

By removing the blow dryer from your hair routine, you eliminate a major cause of frizz. The heat of the hairdryer can permanently damage your hair. Using the hair dryer also ensures that the hair cuticles remain open due to the heat, making the hair feel rougher and less smooth. To prevent this, it is better to simply let the hair air dry. This may take more time, but it will be reflected in the condition of your hair.
If you have to reach for the hairdryer in a hurry, make sure you point the hairdryer downwards and blow-dry with the hair downwards. This makes the hair smoother. When blow-drying, always use a product that protects your hair against the heat, so you can minimize damage as much as possible.

Be careful with wet hair

Your hair is a lot more vulnerable when it is wet. Prevent hair damage by carefully handling wet hair. For example, don’t brush your hair when it is wet. Roughly brushing wet hair can cause hair breakage. Therefore, wait until the hair is dry and therefore less fragile before brushing your hair. You also have to be careful when drying wet hair. Fanatical rubbing of the hair can lead to hair breakage and split ends, because the fabric of towels is often coarse. It is therefore better to dry your hair with a cotton T-shirt or microfiber towel. These substances are finer and therefore milder for your hair. Do not make rubbing movements with these cloths, but wrap them around your hair in a kind of turban and let them sit for a while until most of the water has been absorbed.

Silk pillowcase

Replace your normal pillowcase for a silk one. This fabric is smoother and therefore provides less friction. This means less damage is done to your hair when you sleep. This method can partly prevent hair breakage and split ends, making your hair look a lot healthier and less frizzy.

Take advantage of humid weather

Weather conditions also have a major influence on your hair. Humid weather makes your hair frizz faster. So take advantage of this by tying your hair together when it rains or when it is foggy. With your hair nicely braided or put up, you look a lot more cared for than with an exploded head of fluffy hair. This way your frizzy hair will be less noticeable, and this way you don’t have to walk around all day with a bad hair day.
