Cynthia Schultz (Miss Lip Gloss)

Cynthia Schultz is one of the biggest names in the Dutch beauty blogging world. If her name doesn’t mean anything to you, ‘Miss Lipgloss’ might ring a bell. This site, together with Beautygloss and Beautylab, is the top 3 most visited beauty blogs in the Netherlands. What is Miss Lipgloss, and who is the woman behind the blog?

Cynthia Schultz

Cynthia (1990) comes from Dalfsen, Overijssel. In 2006, when she was sixteen years old, she started her beauty blog Miss Lipgloss. It started as a hobby outside of school, but from 2008 she started receiving more and more visitors and started making money with the site. She was also increasingly invited to press events.

In 2008, after completing her pre-university education, Cynthia started studying Journalism at Windesheim in Zwolle. In 2010 she quit her studies because she could no longer combine it with Miss Lipgloss. In the same year she took the Make Up Course at B Academy. This means she can officially call herself a make-up artist.

Cynthia has been in a relationship with Willem since the end of 2011, whom she met when she worked with him on her webshop. The couple lives together in Zwolle. Cynthia is friends with fellow beauty blogger Mascha Feoktistova.

Miss Lip Gloss

Miss Lipgloss is one of the largest beauty blogs in the Netherlands. The main topic of the site is beauty, but Cynthia also writes here about lifestyle topics such as food and travel, and about her personal life.

New articles come online every day. These are, for example, about beauty tips, new collections of brands, trends, and reviews of various beauty products. A sneak peek is also posted every week , where Cynthia shows photos of what she did that week, both professionally and privately. In addition to written articles, Cynthia also makes videos. In addition to appearing on Miss Lipgloss, they also appear on her YouTube channel of the same name.

Cynthia regularly travels for her blog, where she then posts travel reports on Miss Lipgloss. This usually concerns sponsored trips. She has been to Japan, Curaçao, Paris and London, among others.

Popularity

Miss Lipgloss has between 40,000 and 50,000 unique visitors every day. The site is primarily aimed at women between the ages of 18 and 30, but is visited by women (and sometimes men) of all ages.

Prices

Cynthia’s work has been awarded several prizes. In 2012 she was named Viva 400 Blogger of the Year by Viva. Two years later she became Glamor Business Woman of the Year 2014. This award was presented by women’s magazine Glamor Magazine.

Other projects

Book

In 2013 Cynthia published a book: BEAUTY. She gives many beauty tips. She also talks about her blog and the Dutch beauty world. The book was generally positively received. Her writing style and clear explanations are appreciated by readers. A point of criticism often mentioned is that the beauty tips she gives are at beginner level. The average reader of her site is already familiar with these tips, so the book contains little new and useful information for them.

Newspapers and magazines

From 2011 to 2014, Cynthia was a freelance beauty editor at CosmoGIRL. Here she filled a page every month with beauty-related topics. She also wrote every week for MetroMODE.

Television

Cynthia has also been seen on television since 2012. She then started as a beauty expert at Koffietijd, a morning program on RTL4. In 2015 she is still regularly seen here in live broadcasts. From 2013 she can also be seen on TLC with her own program: TLC Make-Up. In the program she shows various beauty tutorials.

Online store

From 2011 to 2014, Cynthia had an online store in collaboration with De Nieuwe Zaak, where beauty products were sold. After three years she chose to close it so that she could focus more on her other activities. Another reason was that the shop did not generate enough money.

I Love Beauty

I Love Beauty is an event organized by Cynthia in 2014. The theme was beauty. There were workshops, stands, and lectures from all kinds of beauty brands. I Love Beauty took place in the IJsselhallen in Zwolle. There were 8,000 visitors present. I Love Beauty may become an annual event in the future.

Lectures

Cynthia can be hired through the speakers agency The Next Speaker to give group lectures and coaching or advice sessions. She can talk about her work or advise on social media strategy.

Charities

Cynthia is committed to the charity Look Good Feel Better. They give workshops on make-up to cancer patients. Cynthia donates beauty products several times a year for use during these workshops, and for the goodie bags that the women receive after the workshops.
