Beautygloss.nl: which Dutch beauty lover does not know this site? This beauty blog was founded in 2007 by Mascha Feoktistova. Beautygloss soon grew into the largest beauty blog in the Netherlands, and Mascha could be called a true celebrity. Even after the founding of Beautygloss, Mascha has not stood still. Who is this beauty blogger, and what is she doing?
Mascha Feoktistova
Mascha was born on October 11, 1986 in Moscow, Russia. When she was four years old she moved to the Netherlands with her family. She says she speaks fluent Russian, English and Dutch. She has completed the SPW (Social Pedagogical Work) and SPH (Social Pedagogical Assistance) training courses. In 2007 she noticed that there was no Dutch information about beauty available online. That’s why she decided to start her own beauty blog: Beautygloss.nl. This was the first Dutch beauty blog. She has gained fame among Dutch beauty enthusiasts with Beautygloss.
Mascha lives in The Hague with her boyfriend Gregor, with whom she has been in a relationship for more than ten years. Mascha and Gregor have two cats together: Siem and Manis. Gregor and the cats can regularly be seen on Beautygloss, as well as Mascha’s good friends Awisa and Tatjana. The latter was Miss Netherlands in 2013 and 2014.
Beautygloss.nl
Beautygloss is the first and largest beauty blog in the Netherlands, founded in 2007. Mascha blogs here about various beauty-related topics. She gives tips about make-up, among other things. She also writes about hair care, nails, and the latest beauty products.
Popularity
Beautygloss has 110,000 unique visitors per day, and more than 650,000 unique visitors per month (2015). Mascha has acquired a large fan base over the years. Most of these are girls in their early teens. For many of them, Mascha has the status of pop idol. There is also criticism of Beautygloss. Some older visitors to Beautygloss think that Mascha writes too little about beauty-related topics these days. They also criticize her writing style and the quality of her articles.
Prices
Mascha has won several prizes with Beautygloss.nl. In 2011 she won the Viva400 Award in the “business” category, an award presented annually by women’s magazine Viva. In 2013 she received the Holland Beauty Award in the Best blogger category with Beautygloss.nl.
Other projects
Personal blog
In addition to Beautygloss.nl, Mascha maintained a personal blog from 2010 to 2013: Telefoon.beautygloss.nl. Here she wrote about topics that have nothing to do with beauty. The site still exists, but has not been updated since 2013.
Online store
In 2010, Mascha opened her webshop ByBeautygloss.nl. She sold her favorite beauty products here. Some of these products were only available abroad before the opening of ByBeautygloss. In 2013, Mascha decided to close the webshop so that she could focus on other projects.
Beauty gloss on YouTube
In addition to written articles, Mascha also makes videos about beauty. These are posted on her YouTube channel, which, like her site, bears the name Beautygloss. The channel opened in 2007, almost at the same time as her blog. New videos on various topics are posted every day. A tutorial comes online every Saturday. Nearly 400,000 people are subscribed to this channel (2015).
Vloggloss
At the end of 2014, Mascha started another YouTube channel, namely VlogGloss. She posts videos of her daily activities on VlogGloss. This concerns both business and private matters. In 2015, the channel has almost 130,000 subscribers.
Food gloss
In 2013, Mascha started a YouTube channel in collaboration with Frances Lichtenberg, called FoodGloss. Videos with recipes are posted here. These videos can also be seen on Beautygloss.nl. FoodGloss has almost 135,000 subscribers on YouTube (2015).
Book
Since August 2014, Mascha has expanded her field of work beyond the blogging world. She then published her first book, called Happy Life. The title refers to how happy Mascha is with her life. In the book she talks about things she has experienced, hoping to inspire her readers to chase their dreams.
Beauty Gloss Party
Mascha organizes a big party every year for her visitors: the Beautygloss Party. This tradition started in 2011. Many beauty products are for sale at the party. There is often a significant discount on this. Beauty treatments and workshops are also organised. Finally, there are several BNers present.
