Balayage for summer hair

With balayage you can create a beautiful summer hairstyle, it looks like you have been on holiday for a while to a warm holiday country. It is very natural, because you cannot see that your hair is dyed. But is this dyeing technique suitable for every hair type? And can you apply it to yourself?

Balayage

Balayage is a French word for sweeping and painting. This technique has been around since the 1970s, but has really become popular since 2015. This dyeing technique makes it look like you’ve spent a week at a sunny destination, because your hair is bleached in the places where the sun shines the most. Balayage looks very natural, you cannot tell that you have dyed your hair.

Eligibility

This dyeing technique is suitable for blond and brown hair. It is also suitable for almost all hair lengths, it is just not suitable for extremely short hair. It also makes no difference whether you have curly or straight hair. Balayage looks slightly different on curls than on straight hair, for example. This is because the structure of curly hair is very different from that of straight hair. Balayage is most often applied to straight hair and hair with light strokes. The hair length it is most commonly applied to is long and medium hair.

The treatment

The paint is applied to the surface but is not completely saturated. This causes you to see light streaks in the hair. With this treatment you will not immediately have a different hair color, but you will have slightly different hair. This hair dye technique allows you to emphasize your hairstyle in a positive way. The treatment takes about an hour. Not every hair salon is trained in applying balayage, so inquire about this carefully. This treatment will cost you between 50 and 120 euros, this amount depends on the hair salon you go to and the length of your hair. It is not wise to apply balayage yourself, as it is a very difficult painting technique to apply yourself.

Celebrities

Many celebrities have become fans of the balayage trend. These are celebrities such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Miranda Kerr, Gisele Bundchen, Elisabeth Olsen, Alessandra Ambrosio, Jennifer Lopez and Penélope Cruz. You also often see the balayage trend on the red carpet.

Ombre

Many people will confuse ombre with balayage because they have a number of similarities. With ombre hair you have a different color of hair in the ends than at the top, this color blends fairly gradually. Balayage looks a bit like ombre, but it is slightly different. A similarity between ombre and balayage is that they both do not require much maintenance because you hardly have any roots. Balayage is much more natural compared to ombre, because with ombre there is a real transition in hair color. Another difference with ombre is that balayage is suitable for more hair colors than ombre, as ombre is most suitable for brown hair.

Maintenance

With this painting technique you have almost no problems with outgrowth, so you only need to have it touched up once every six months. This is because it grows out very nicely, you cannot clearly see the growth line. Because your hair will be dyed, it is important that you take good care of your hair after the treatment. You can do this with a good shampoo, conditioner and mask especially for colored hair. This also helps the color last longer.
