Your fourth chakra, the heart chakra

Every person has seven chakras, of which the fourth chakra is called the heart chakra. The fourth chakra physically affects your heart, lungs, blood circulation and immune system. Your fourth chakra is of course about love, for yourself and for others. You can balance your fourth chakra by going into nature, by consciously dealing with your breathing and of course by having people around you who love you and who love you.

Where is your fourth chakra located?

Your fourth chakra is located at the level of your heart. Not surprising, since the fourth chakra is also called the heart chakra. It is the middle chakra and therefore forms the center, the heart, of all chakras.

How does your fourth chakra influence your body?

Each chakra influences a number of specific body parts. Your fourth chakra affects your heart, lungs and blood circulation. If your fourth chakra is not in balance, you may notice this, for example, in heart problems (such as a heart attack or a heart rhythm disorder), in your lungs (such as pneumonia or chronic bronchitis) or in arteriosclerosis. This does not apply the other way around: if you experience one of these complaints, the cause does not necessarily have to lie with your fourth chakra.

How does your fourth chakra influence your hormonal system?

Each chakra also influences a specific (endocrine) gland that secretes a certain hormone. The gland affected by your fourth chakra is the thymus. The thymus produces hormones that play an important role in our immune system. In babies and children, this gland is about the size of a small child’s fist. After puberty, the thymus slowly shrivels. It is still unknown why this happens.

How does your fourth chakra influence your emotions?

The emotion that belongs to the fourth chakra is of course love. When your fourth chakra is balanced, you can love both yourself and others. Even if you have a great passion for music or another hobby, for example, this is an expression of a well-functioning fourth chakra. With an underdeveloped fourth chakra you can feel lonely. With an overdeveloped fourth chakra, jealousy can play a role or you can feel strongly clingy. The fourth chakra is about a balance between giving and receiving love. So giving love is important and receiving love is part of that.

What can you do yourself?

The heart has an extension with your arms. When you open your arms, you literally open your heart to receive love. To embrace something or someone means to love. To balance your fourth chakra, you can, for example, go into nature. Consciously enjoy the beauty of nature. Also bring nature into your home with flowers or plants, for example. It is also good to pay attention to your breathing. For example, look for breathing exercises. And of course it helps to be with people you love and who love you. Love heals!
