If you want to become pregnant, it is of course important that you have sex at the right times and that you live a healthy lifestyle. But that’s not the only thing you can do to maximize the chance of a successful pregnancy! Using wheat germ oil increases the chance of good implantation. If you want to become pregnant, you know that you have to have intercourse at the right times. “At the right time” here means: just before or during ovulation. After all, only when ovulation has occurred is an egg cell ready, which can then be fertilized by a sperm cell. Because eggs only live for a short time, you will have to ensure that the sperm cells arrive at the right time. It is better to be a little too early than too late, because sperm cells can remain alive for a few days and thus “await” the egg. During these cell divisions, the egg cell travels through the fallopian tubes to the uterus. This is a journey of only a few centimeters, but takes 5 to 8 days. Only when the embryo-to-be has arrived in the uterus can it implant. This is an important moment: if implantation does not go well, the egg is rejected and the pregnancy comes to an end. Because this happens before the menstrual date, you will not notice that fertilization has occurred. There is no pregnancy without successful implantation !
How does implantation proceed?
Implantation takes place in 3 phases: in the first phase, the fertilized egg lies against the uterine lining. This is followed by phase 2, in which it attaches to the uterine lining. Only in the third and final phase of implantation does the embryo, as it were, bore into the uterine lining. Whether the implantation process goes well depends on a lot of factors, such as sugars, proteins, hormones, but also blood vessels. The thickness of the uterine lining is also important: if the uterine lining is too thick or too thin, the chance of successful implantation decreases. An optimal endometrium is 7-13 mm thick at the time of implantation. If implantation is successful, the embryo will produce HCG: the hormone to which a pregnancy test responds.
How wheat germ oil can promote implantation
In women whose uterine lining is too thin, implantation will be more difficult or even impossible. Fertilization has occurred, but the fertilized egg has no chance of developing into an embryo because implantation does not proceed properly. The egg is then rejected. In fact, in that case you will have a very early miscarriage, but you will not know it, because the pregnancy was not yet detectable by means of a pregnancy test (after all, no HCG has yet been produced).
Taking wheat germ oil ensures that the uterine lining becomes thicker and has better blood flow. This increases the chance of successful implantation. Some women also notice that the luteal phase (the time between ovulation and menstruation) is increased. Ovulation then occurs earlier, giving any fertilized egg more time to implant.

Wheat germ oil is a cold-pressed, golden yellow oil. The oil is made from the germ of wheat grains, hence the name. The oil is therefore made from the life source of a new plant and contains many vitamins and fatty acids. Wheat germ oil also contains many components that also occur in the human body. Wheat germ oil is not only good for implantation, but also for the entire circulatory system and nervous system. Furthermore, wheat germ oil contains a lot of vitamin E. Women with a vitamin E deficiency usually do not become pregnant quickly.
Wheat germ oil is available at health food stores, but also at drugstore chains such as Etos and Kruidvat. If you don’t feel like taking a bite of oil, you can also buy capsules containing this oil instead of wheat germ oil. You usually have to take these capsules one to three times a day. They are inexpensive and easy to swallow because they are made in the form of small balls. (A kind of bath pearls, but the mini version.)
Wheat germ oil and its interaction with other medications
Would you like to become pregnant and are you considering taking wheat germ oil, but are you also taking other medications? Then you can do this safely: there are no known interactions with other medications. It is of course wise to first discuss your wish to have children with your treating doctor: not every medicine may be used during pregnancy. However, you can always take wheat germ oil to promote implantation.
