Carry out facial care yourself

You can book a facial treatment at any beautician and in any wellness center. Often with a nice price tag, ranging from fifty euros to sometimes even hundreds of euros. But why not try this out yourself at home? Although it is less relaxing, it is a lot cheaper. And also very easy to implement.

Everything starts with good preparation

Get everything you need ready and choose a quiet spot for yourself. Listen to some relaxing music and light a scented candle to get into the mood.

What do I need?

Material

  • 1 bowl of hot water
  • containing 8 rolled up guest towels
  • Cotton pads
  • Tissues
  • Spatula
  • Mask brush

Products

  • Cleansing milk
  • Tonic
  • Peeling
  • Mask
  • Day cream/night cream
  • 100% aloe vera gel

Roadmap

Remove a rinsed guest towel from the hot water. Place this over your face. The heat will cause your pores to open, allowing all products to be better absorbed by the skin.

Cleaning

Take a small amount of cleansing milk. Distribute this over the face, neck and décolleté with rotating movements. These circular movements ensure that the dirt is easily loosened. Take a wet guest towel and wipe away the cleansing milk.

Take two cotton pads, put the tonic on them and dab them over the face. This ensures that the skin contracts again and provides moisture to the skin. The tonic may be used after each step.

Peeling

Apply the peeling with a mask brush. A peeling works on the deeper layer of the skin. This will ensure that the dead skin cells are removed. Preferably choose a peeling with small granules. After applying the peeling, you may moisten it with a little water and perform rotating movements if necessary. This ensures that the peeling remains active. It is normal for the peeling to sting the skin, the skin may also look red afterwards. Never leave the peeling on for longer than five minutes.

Wipe off the peeling with a wet guest towel and then reapply tonic using cotton pads.

Mask

Apply a thin layer of 100% aloe vera gel to the face, then apply a thicker layer of the mask with a mask brush. Don’t forget the neck. The aloe vera gel will provide extra hydration. The mask is allowed to work for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes you will see that the mask is completely gone in some places on the face and not in other places. This is because the skin only absorbs what it needs. The places where the mask has completely pulled away are therefore the places that needed to be nourished the most.

The mask does not need to be rinsed off immediately. If there is still enough product on the skin, you can use it for the massage. If you prefer to work with a different product, remove the mask with a wet guest towel and reapply tonic to the skin.

Massage

For the massage, use either the mask, a day cream, or a massage cream specifically for the face. The massage preferably lasts about 15 minutes. Start by spreading the product over your entire face, neck and décolleté in several large strokes. Then massage step by step, starting with the forehead, eyebrows, temples, jaws, nose, mouth, neck and décolleté. Vary your movements, feel what is pleasant and relaxing for you. The massage should be performed slowly.

After the massage, the excess product is removed with a wet guest towel and you use the tonic again.

Day or night cream

Depending on the time of day, apply a day or night cream. Choose a cream that suits your skin. You can choose a moisturizing cream, an anti-wrinkle cream, a cream against oily skin, …

How often?

The complete facial treatment as described here is best performed once a month because of the peeling. Applying a mask alone can be done weekly. The cleaning may be done daily, both in the morning and in the evening.

How do I choose the right products?

To choose the right products, it is important to know what skin type you have. You can have this determined for free in most perfumery stores. The salespeople are trained to quickly recognize skin types. For more certainty, you can also have a complete skin analysis done. You can contact your beautician for this.
Of course you can also add variety. Sometimes you may suffer from pimples and opt for an acne treatment, while during the winter you may suffer from dry skin more often and prefer to use moisturizing products.
