What is salt therapy

Salt therapy has been used for centuries, especially in Eastern Europe it used to be (but still is) very popular. In recent years it has also gained enormous popularity in Western Europe and America, because of the beneficial effect that salt has on our body. But what exactly is salt therapy? And what positive effects does salt therapy actually have on our body?

What is salt therapy and what is it good for?

Salt therapies are therapies in which salt is used in different ways, because it has a beneficial effect on our body. Salt therapies relieve all kinds of complaints in our body, from respiratory tract to muscles, from allergies to rheumatic diseases. But salt therapy is also de-stressing and relieves many complaints of bronchitis, asthma and COPD. Salt therapies can take different forms, for example you can inhale with salt, but you also have the option of taking a salt bath.

Halotherapy

Halotherapy is a form of inhalation therapy, which has a healing effect on both body and mind. Halotherapy simulates a micro maritime climate through a high concentration of essential minerals that arise in the air. For example, you can undergo halotherapy in a salt cave. When you stay in this cave for 45 minutes, it has the same effect on your body as breathing fresh air at the coast for three hours. There are several wellness centers that already offer this therapy, but providers who only focus on salt therapies are also emerging.

Dry salt therapy

The dry salt therapy is also a 100% natural therapy, which helps to remove and loosen mucus in the throat, airways and lungs. Tough mucus in the airways is often the culprit of all kinds of diseases. If the elasticity of your lungs decreases (for example with COPD, chronic bronchitis or asthma), it can be difficult to cough up this tough mucus. The dry salt inhaler contains salt crystals, which ensure that small salt particles are formed when the inhaled air flow passes through them. Salt particles that end up in your body (and mainly the lungs) will ensure that the tough mucus becomes a lot less tough.

Your lungs become a lot stronger by using dry salt therapy, and after use they are also a lot less susceptible to pollutants, infections and colds, for example. After using dry salt therapy, your lung function is not improved, only complaints can be reduced, it has a preventive effect and perhaps most importantly: you get the feeling of getting enough air again (especially in respiratory diseases such as COPD and bronchitis). this can be very liberating and enlightening).

Dead Sea

The Dead Sea is located on the border of Jordan and Israel and is the deepest lake in the world. The Dead Sea contains an extremely high concentration of minerals, the concentration of salt is no less than 33%. This is why you can float in this water. Many people with skin conditions take a treatment at the Dead Sea, because it has a very beneficial effect on our body due to the high salt concentration. Allergies, rashes, psoriasis and minor inflammations would disappear like snow in the sun.

Make your own salt spa at home

Of course, it is not for everyone to take a treatment at the Dead Sea, but fortunately there is a very simple way to imitate this. Fill your bath with warm water and add enough salt (effervescent tablets are available that contain other beneficial minerals in addition to the mineral salt). To leave your skin feeling soft and oiled, both during the bath and when you get out, add half a cup of oatmeal. Stir the oatmeal well into the bath so that it largely dissolves. In addition to supple skin, oatmeal also helps combat many skin conditions and diseases, such as chickenpox.
