Macular degeneration is an eye condition in which visual acuity decreases in the central part of the retina and the patient sees distorted images, known as metamorphopsia. This often makes it no longer possible to recognize faces, read, watch TV or participate in traffic. Therefore, this is known as age-related macular degeneration (age-related macular degeneration) or social blindness. This is the most common eye disease among the elderly. Worldwide, 100 million people suffer from macular degeneration, in the Netherlands this number is 125,000. It is estimated that 400,000 to 500,000 Dutch people have an early form of macular degeneration. This number will certainly increase due to the aging population. The specially developed egg, which contains sufficient lutein, supports the macula. Because the chickens are fed DHA-enriched chicken feed, they already lay lutein-enriched eggs. These eggs therefore slow down macular degeneration. The patient should consume two eggs per day. The egg is processed into a powder so that it can be taken with a drink.

A myth is that the special eggs reverse the eye condition macular degeneration.
