Nail styling: French manicure polish

You can paint a French manicure by painting the free edge of the nail with a white polish and the nail bed with a transparent polish. It is very suitable for disguising the difference between short and longer nails. Furthermore, it is of course very neatly maintained. This method of varnishing is often used at weddings. It can also be applied in acrylic or gel (lacquer).

French manicure

French manicure originated in the Middle Ages (ca. 500 to ca. 1500) in France. The difference between rich and poor was very large at that time. The wealthy nobility wanted to separate themselves from the workers. The workers worked outside and were therefore tanned and had rough hands with black edges under the nails. People of rank lived indoors, when they went outside it was under a parasol. So they had white, light skin and emphasized this even more by smearing their skin with lime. Their hands and nails were neat and clean with white nail edges. This indicated how luxurious their life was. The nails were scraped over a lime block so that the nails appeared pure white. This is how the name ‘French manicure’ came about.

French manicure polishes

Painting a French manicure means that you paint the free edge of the nail with a white polish and the nail bed with a transparent or light pink polish.

Supplies:

  • Nail polish remover
  • Cotton pads
  • File
  • Nail disinfectant
  • Transparent or light pink nail polish
  • White nail polish
  • Top Coat
  • Cuticle oil

Proceed as follows:

Remove any old nail polish with a nail polish remover and cotton pad. File the nails into shape. After this, clean and degrease the nails with nail disinfectant. Now you can apply a thin layer of the transparent varnish. First roll the bottle upside down in your hands. Let this layer dry thoroughly.

After this you paint the smile line. This is a semi-circular white border on the free edge of the nail. First paint a semi-circular horizontal line against the nail bed of the nail with the white polish. Then paint from this line towards the free edge until the entire edge is evenly covered. Once all the nails are done, let them dry thoroughly. If you have spilled, carefully remove it with some nail polish remover.

When the nails are completely dry, apply the transparent nail polish in a thin layer. Make sure the entire nail is covered. When this has dried again, you can apply a nice high-gloss layer with a top coat. The top coat also provides protection for the nail polish. Take care of the cuticles afterwards by massaging them with a cuticle oil. These are now available in many different scents.

Variations

Of course, various variations are possible on the standard French manicure. For example, you can incorporate rhinestones into the white edge. You can also make a French manicure with bright colors. For example, instead of a white border, a blue or red border. Or also paint the nail bed in a different color. But you can also make a border with an animal print or other drawing. With creativity, imagination and practice you can make the most beautiful creations!
