Prevent condoms from breaking

Of course, you should always practice safe sex with a condom: only this contraceptive protects you against both sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy. Unfortunately, it often happens that a condom breaks, making it no longer safe. Why do condoms sometimes break?

Store condoms properly

It is best to store condoms in a cool place. Condoms that have been left in a warm environment for a long time are less reliable. For that reason it is not convenient to carry a condom with you in your wallet.

Use the condom correctly

When you take the condom out of the package, look carefully at which side it rolls off and then put it on. Make sure you squeeze the condom reservoir tightly when applying! If you don’t do this, air will remain in it, which makes it easier for a condom to tear. Also unroll the condom completely. If you don’t do this, you run the risk of it rolling back up and possibly sliding off.

Be careful with sharp objects

It is obvious that you do not come near the condom with sharp objects, but in the heat of the moment you can sometimes miss something. Think of hooks on your fingernails or jewelry on your hands.

Be careful with oil products

Most condoms are made of latex. This material has the property that it can become porous when it comes into contact with oil. Be careful with things like massage oil and lubricant! You can use silicone or water-based products with confidence.

Does the condom fit properly?

It is not only uncomfortable if a condom is too tight or too loose: it is also less safe. A condom that is too tight is more likely to tear, while a condom that is too loose will slip off more easily. You sometimes have to look for it, but there are different sizes of condoms. Try things out to find out which size fits best.

Take measures in time

If you have a long sex session, the woman may become less moist. This can affect the safety of the condom; in this case, use a little lubricant (water or silicone based) or spit. This can also be advisable if you have a very rough sex: it is even advisable to change condoms after fifteen minutes so that you can be sure that you are safe.
